The Museum opened on 10 November 2004, and its creation involved the renovation of the monastic complex of Sant’Eufemia, owned by the Municipality of Brescia, recovering the building of great archaeological, historical and architectural value. The location of the Museum in this place of great historical value is completely different from other automobile museums: the Mille Miglia Museum holds a story, tells the story of a myth day after day.
The Museum was not only supposed to be an archive, but also had to reconstruct a cultural sporting event and at the same time the history of the whole of Italy. Thanks to the commitment of private collectors and the collaboration with other historic car museums including the Mercedes-Benz Museum with which a collaboration agreement was signed, the Mille Miglia Museum was able to equip itself with jewels on four wheels to be exhibited along the museum itinerary.
The archive of the race is kept at the Mille Miglia Museum, which houses about one hundred and thirty thousand documents. The Historical Archive contains all the material pertaining to the organization, including the registration forms of the competitors, correspondence with the teams and the car manufacturers, rankings, starting orders, tables, press reviews with articles, newspapers and magazines of the time and the famous “Unique Numbers”.
