The AUDI Museum was inaugurated on December 15, 2000, covers an area of 77.000 square meters, and is located in the city of Ingolstadt within the Audi Forum, an immense area located at the company headquarters and which offers visitors (about 400.000 per year) a complete brand experience.
Even the unusual architecture, which takes up the principle of the annual rings of a tree trunk behind the fully glazed façade, symbolically combines permanence and change. Modern presentation techniques with images, displays and multimedia elements place the numerous vehicles and objects in their historical context and revive the past.
The story of the company of today's AUDI AG is told, as well as the rapid technological progress in automobile construction in the last century. By placing vehicles in economic and social conditions, the Audi Museum is much more than just a museum of technology: a visit is not just a journey through the entire history of the automobile, but also a fascinating glimpse into the 20th century.
From entry level 0, the elevator takes you back to the year 1899 like a "time machine" to level 3, where the tour begins. The two levels of the permanent exhibition, from 1899 to 1945 and from 1946 to 2000, are each divided into seven sections. Each area provides an overview of the individual era, including some cars and motorcycles of the NSU, which since 1969 was merged with AUDI. Texts and images deal with the relationship between cars, technology and society.
Over 100 cars and two-wheeled vehicles illustrate the company's history. The icons of Audi Motorsport's impressive history are presented on a paternoster elevator that constantly moves through all levels of the building. Major events in the history of the four links, such as the merger into Auto Union in 1932, are explained in multimedia presentations and make you an eyewitness to the story. The technology gallery with interactive exhibits also offers an overview of the most important milestones in the development of the automobile.
