In the late 1950s, Prince Rainier III, a car enthusiast, began his collection of classic cars. Over the years and acquisitions the collection grew and very rapidly, the garage
of the Prince's Palace proved to be too small to contain a hundred superb cars with monumental or sporty silhouettes, majestic bodywork, sparkling bonnets, royal grilles!
It was then that in 1993 Prince Rainier III decided to reveal his treasures to the public.
Initially located on the Terrasses de Fontvieille, the Car Collection of H.S.H. the Prince of Monaco moved to its new modern setting in July 2022, next to the Rainier III water sports stadium. This 3,500 m2 exhibition, unique in the world, brings together around 70 vehicles including the racing cars that marked the Monte-Carlo Rally and the Formula 1s of the Monaco Grand Prix.
The exhibition will allow visitors to go back in time and relive the salient moments in the history of the princely family, with unique examples such as the Chrysler Imperiale that Rainier III had specially brought from the United States to pick up Princess Grace from the port, or the glass-cockpit Lexus in back, built for the princely wedding of Prince Albert II and H.H.H. Princess Charlène in 2011.
There is then a space dedicated to a series of racing cars, with models that have distinguished themselves in Formula 1, the Monte-Carlo Rally or the Paris-Dakar, to name just a few races.
